Mathieu Uhl intègre le projet DevOCGen en tant qu'ingénieur en calcul scientifique. Il travaillera sur le partie du projet dédiée à l'analyse de génomes échantillonnés à différentes générations afin de caractériser l’évolution temporelle de la diversité génétique. Plus précisément, Mathieu travaillera sur l’optimisation d'un programme Python permettant d’estimer l’avantage sélectif d’un allèle dans une population.

Ce programme, développé au cours d’un précédent projet, repose sur l’observation de génomes à différentes générations et exploite la dynamique temporelle des fréquences alléliques observées via ces échantillons (Paris et al., G3 2019). Ces observations sont modélisées par une chaîne de Markov cachée. Optimiser ce programme est notamment primordial pour l’analyse de génomes entiers, qui présentent un très grand nombre de locus.

Il travailera aussi sur une extension de ce programme afin de co-estimer l’avantage sélectif à un grand nombre de locus et la taille  de la population étudiée. Le programme actuel suppose que la taille de la population est connue. En plus de Simon Boitard et Miguel de Navascués au CBGP, Mathieu travaillera avec Bertrand Servin, chercheur INRAE en génétique statistique à Toulouse; il y effectuera plusieurs missions pendant son contrat.
