The research group LEPSE, ranked among the top 5% research group in ecophysiology worldwide in 2014 by a panel of experts is developing high throughput phenotyping platforms for more than 15 years. These platforms (embarking 500 to 1500 plants simultaneously) aim to analyze and model genetic variability of plant responses to environmental stresses and climate change (mainly drought and elevated temperature). These platforms can host large collections of genotypes of the same species, evaluate their tolerance and obtain relevant parameters that will be injected into predicting models allowing the selection and the breeding of future, tolerant and more efficient varieties.

These platforms are gathered into "Montpellier Plant Phenotyping Platforms " (M3P), that is a full member of the "Investmant for the future"  initiative PHENOME. The platforms hosts ~ 50% of external access in the frame of national and international projects on a variety of species (maize, wheat, grapevine, apple tree, sorghum).

PhenoDyn platform

The Phenodyn platform, located in a green house of 180 square meters, continuous measures (every 15 minutes) the leaf growth thanks to rotary displacement sensors and the transpiration of 420 cereal plants (corn, rice, wheat ... ) installed on 140 scales. These measures are linked link to the level of water availability in the soil as well as environmental conditions (radiation, air temperature and leaf evaporative demand). The platform also includes two growth chambers of 25 square meters for setting environmental conditions and to quickly draw response curves.

Phenopsis platform 

The PHENOPSIS platform, located in a growth chamber of 1.5 x 5 meter, is a prototype built by Optimalog (France) in 2003 and triplicate in 2008. Thanks to a removable arm allows to weigh, irrigate precisely and make a top view and a side view image, on more than 500 small plants like the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana under environmental conditions strictly controlled. The controller is also equipped with a fluorescence camera and a thermal camera to detect sweating differences.

PhenoArch platform

Housed in a greenhouse of 350 m² , the PhenoArch platform, based on a conveyor, irrigation areas and an imaging chamber (3 cameras) allows the control and measurement of environmental conditions and precise measurements of the architecture of 1680 plants. The flow of this platform makes it compatible with genomic selection
